Hot water and warm rooms, for less

SaveElectro runs your water heater, electric heating and heat pump in the cheapest hours of the day, and keeps every room at the temperature you choose.

You keep your electricity company. Heaters keep their own thermostats. You can switch any device on or off yourself at any time.

On an exchange-price contract, the same kilowatt-hour can cost many times more at 18:00 than at 03:00. A water heater or a convector doesn't know that: it heats whenever its thermostat asks — often right in the morning or evening peak.

A tank of hot water and a well-heated house store warmth for hours. SaveElectro uses that: it heats when electricity is cheap and lets the stored heat carry you through the expensive hours.

What SaveElectro does for your heating

Water heater in the cheapest hours

You choose a price limit; SaveElectro heats below it and waits above it. The heater's own thermostat still decides when the water is hot enough.

Rooms at the temperature you choose

With a room sensor, rooms never drop below your minimum — even in expensive hours — and cheap hours never overheat them past your maximum.

Heat pumps the manufacturer's way

For ground-source and air-to-water pumps with an SG Ready input. SaveElectro never cuts the pump's power; it sends the standard SG Ready signal and follows the standard's limits.

Tomorrow's plan every evening

Once the next day's prices are published, you see exactly when each heater will run — and change it if you want.

You stay in charge

One tap switches any heater on or off, or back to automatic. The override stays until you release it.

Told if a room still gets cold

If a heater fails or a breaker trips, no thermostat can help. Set a minimum on the room sensor and you get an alert when the room drops below it, and family or a caretaker can too.

Safe when something fails

If the internet or SaveElectro stops, heaters return to their normal operation on their own within 15 minutes.

How to get started

1
Get the right Shelly device
A Shelly relay for each water heater or heating circuit, a Shelly Pro 2 for a heat pump. An electrician fits them.
2
Choose what it heats
Pick water heater, room heating or heat pump in SaveElectro, set your price limit and, if you have a sensor, your room temperatures.
3
Let it run
SaveElectro heats in the cheap hours every day. My Home shows what is happening; the plan arrives every evening.

What you need

For a water heater or convectors

A Shelly relay per heater or heating circuit, usually with a contactor, fitted by an electrician. See the Shelly relay guide.

For a heat pump

A ground-source or air-to-water heat pump with an SG Ready input, and a Shelly Pro 2 (two potential-free contacts) connected by an installer. Air-to-air heat pumps are not supported.

For room temperatures (optional)

A temperature probe on a Shelly Add-on, or a Shelly H&T sensor in the room. Put the H&T on USB power: it then reports every 5 minutes; on batteries it reports much less often. Several convectors can share one sensor.

An exchange-price contract

Heating in cheap hours saves money on an exchange-price (spot) contract. On a fixed price, the timing makes no difference to your bill.

Questions people ask

Will I run out of hot water?

The water heater keeps its own thermostat, so the water is always heated to the same temperature — just at cheaper times. If you need it now, one tap on On heats it straight away.

Will the rooms get cold in the expensive hours?

Not below your minimum. With a room sensor, SaveElectro heats whenever a room drops below the minimum you set, whatever the price. Without a sensor, you can turn on a safety net so heating never stays off for longer than you allow.

Can this damage my heat pump?

SaveElectro never switches a heat pump's power. It only sends the SG Ready signal, which the pump is designed to receive, and it keeps to the standard's limits: a pause lasts at most two hours and happens at most three times a day.

How much will I save?

That depends on your prices, your heaters and how you live, so we don't promise a percentage. SaveElectro shows the average price each heater actually paid, so you can see the difference yourself.

Start with your water heater

It's the simplest place to begin: one relay, one setting, and it runs in the cheapest hours from the first night.
